Surfside
This piece is a result of experimentation with alternative photography processes, specifically cyanotypes on different mediums. For Glass Plates and mirrors a gelatin emulsion is prepared with ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide to produce a solution that will bind to glass surfaces and be sensitive to UV light. Glass plates or broken mirror is coated with the emulsion and then exposed in sunlight using a negative processed from a digital photograph or composite and printed on transparent film. The full oxidation and vibrance of the classic Prussian blue takes as long as 24 hours to fully develop. The result using mirrors yields a unique 3D affect that is best experienced when viewed live. In my work, I like to align the process with the subject, I like to think the simplicity of sunlight and water are mirrored by a surfer's love for sunlight and water.
